Deadlines, user requirements, technical limitations -- these are all forms of constraints that we should embrace in product.
The most useful constraint I've found when working with my team is a simple question I ask during brainstorms:
How might we solve this customer problem? ← this gets the team throwing out lots of pie-in-the-sky ideas
If we were to ship something to solve this customer problem within 4 weeks, how would we solve it? ← this focuses us on the ideas that we can deliver within a reasonable unit of time
